Stephen has been the piano teacher for my two sons for the past five years. I am so impressed with his patience, knowledge and dedication to each student as an individual. Lessons are tailored to each of my sons’ strengths, and as they have advanced, to their personal interests in music. Both of my sons truly enjoyed learning from Stephen. As well as being a patient, professional musician, and mentor, he is kind and funny, and never made the lessons feel like hard work. I would highly recommend Stephen James to anyone, from child to adult, beginner to advanced, who wants to learn the art and discipline of the piano.

I’d like to add a testimonial. I’ve taken piano lessons from Steve for many years, both in Framingham and his previous residence in Ashland. He is an excellent teacher with great patience; he has my highest recommendation. My piano playing is severely limited by tension. Most traditional piano teachers don’t have tools to address this problem. Steve’s approach guides the student to use balance as a touchstone: making more balanced choices allows playing with less effort and tension. Steve can work with students at all levels, from beginner through those preparing for conservatory.
